(Serves 5-6)
Ingredients for Dal
Take 1.5 cup arhar dal / pigeon pea (wash it well)
4-5 cups water
2 -3 tomatoes chopped
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Ingredients for Tadka
1 big onion sliced
1 tbsp mustard seeds
15-20 curry leaves
1 tbsp grated ginger
1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
2 tb spoon mustard oil
1/2 tea spoon hing
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp dry mango powder
2 tbsp Sambar Masala

For Dal
Take a cooker, add washed arhar dal, water, add chopped tomatoes.
Add salt and turmeric powder.
Cover it with lid and let 2-3 whistles come.
For Tadka
Take a pan and heat oil.
Add mustard seeds.
Add curry leaves, fenugreek seeds hing, and saute it well.
Add grated ginger, mix well and cook for a min or two.
Add onions and mix well.
Cover it with a lid and let it cook for 5-7 mins on low medium flame,
Add sambar masala and other spices.
Mix it well.
Add 1/2 cup water and bring a boil.
Now add the prepared dal and mix well.
Let it cook for 10-15 mins on low medium flame.
For Serving
