(Serves 4)
Ingredients
For Khichadi
1 cup rice (washed nicely and soaked for 10 mins)
1 cup green gram split/ hari moong chilka (washed nicely and soaked for 10 mins)
2-3 red chili
1 tsp prepared achari masala
1/2 tsp dry mango powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1-2 tbsp ghee
Salt to taste
5 cups water
For Achari Masala
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
1/2 tsp fennel seeds
1/2 tsp nigella seeds
For Tadka
8-10 garlic cloves chopped
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp prepared achari masala
1 tsp ghee
Procedure
For Achari Masala
Heat pan.
Add ingredients for Achari masala (cumin, mustard, fenugreek, fennel and nigella seeds)
Roast it nicely on low medium flame for minimum 10 mins
Grind it, keep it aside.
For Khichadi
Extract the water from rice and dal.
Take pressure cooker.
Add soaked rice and dal.
Add water.
Add salt and cover it with a lid.
Give 2-3 whistle and switch off the flame.
Take a pan.
Heat ghee and add red chili.
Toss for a min or two.
Add prepared achari masala, red chili powder, turmeric powder and dry mango powder.
Stir for a min or two.
Add boiled khichdi and mix well.
Add 2-3 cups of water and let it boil nicely for 10-15 mins.
For Tadka
Take a tadka pan and heat ghee.
Add chopped garlic and stir for a min or two.
Add red chili powder and prepared achari masala.
Stir for a min or two.
For Serving
Garnish the Khichdi with prepared tadka, Enjoy the Khichdi with a twist!!
